Liberta Blackhawks Kofi James scored a well fought 107 vs the Windward Islands Volcanoes. With the score at 121/6 in the 50th over, James walked out to meet Karima Gore who was playing in his first game. The pair both who represent Blackhawks put on an enterprising partnership of 167 runs for the 7th wicket. Gore would fall just six runs shy of his maiden century. However, after Gore’s dismissal James found support from Jeremiah Louis (43*) registering his first ton of his First Class Career.

Cornwall’s Eleven Secures Win for Leewards
West Indies Bowling All Rounder Rahkeem Cornwall filleted the Barbados Pride batting line up with great skill and precision in their encounter of the 3rd round for the WICB Professional 4 Day Competition. The tall, burly figure was too much to handle for the Bajans, collecting 6 for 50 and 5 for 19 respectively in both innings. He was ably supported by West Indies versatile wicketkeeper/batsman Devon Thomas who collect 5 for 22 with his fast medium bowling.
Leewards were then set a target of 247 to win the game and got off to a brilliant start with M. Hodge and K. Powell cementing a 69 runs stand for the first wicket . After Hodge was dismissed, Powell continued his assault on the Bajans as wickets fell around him 103/4. He then found a great partner in Captain Jahmar Hamilton (55) as they put on 120 in 22 overs before the latter was dismissed 223/5. The Nevisian brought up his 10th First Class Century working the ball into the square leg region but he then quickly followed Hamilton leaving Leewards reeling at 223/6.
J. Louis came and went leaving the score at 223/7 before Cornwall strolled in to meet Kofi James. The men from Liberta Blackhawks put on a 20 run partnership before James was caught behind for 14 and the Leewards needing another 4 runs to win with two wickets in hand. But it was no walk in the park as J. McAllister bowled with pace and bounce and even managed to hurry Cornwall into pushing a ball to the man at gully in the form Shamar Springer who pretty much dropped the game. The next delivery Cornwall advanced to McAllister swashbuckling him over mid-off to score the winning boundary. Leewards won by 2 wickets.
ABCA T10 Bowls Off With Wins For Police and Crushers
Believe it or not but the 2023 ABCA Cricket Season started off with two well-contested fixtures of the T10 League. Police took on Bolans Blasters who posted 69 for 3 from their 10 overs with Hughan ‘Muscle’ Tonge top-scoring with 25 runs. In return, Police surpassed the target with five balls to spare with Captain Derek Mourillon scoring 42 from 25 balls before Allrounder Shavon Moore blasted 24 from just seven balls.
In the other fixture, Pigotts Crushers smashed Rising Spartans by six wickets. Batting first, Spartans could only manage a modest 56 from their 10 over before Kadeem Henry picking up 2 for 4 from his allotment. However, it was not so much of a smooth sailing for the Crushers as they regularly lost wickets but with steady and smart batting from the explosive Essan Warner, they were guided home safely to register their first win of the tournament.

Kofi James – Player of the Week
Well, what can you say? When you’re a class above the rest it’s evident for all to see! You know, like when everyone is having a bad day and that one person is just there smiling in the back? Well, that was Kofi James all weekend. We believe the game should be renamed Empire Nation vs Kofi James because he literally bullied and dominated Empire with both bat and ball.
On Day One, he teamed up with Kadeem Phillip to keep the town men strangled for runs bowling them out for 130 runs. Thanks to Justin Athanaze’s (48*) lower order power hitting that got Empire Nation to some sort of respectable total. Both bowlers picked up 5 fours. James then returned with the bat and dominated the opening stand (71) with Tarek Charles scoring 69 in 48 balls. No other Black Hawks Batsman got passed 20 runs.
When James got out at 86 for 2, one would say the Hawks were in the driving seat right? Wrong! We could not be more wrong as this game has an interesting way of humbling the best of teams. Liberta Black Hawks managed to muck up a good start to being bowled out for 105 inside 30 overs. The last seven wickets fell for only 5 runs. This is why we said it was Kofi James vs Empire Nation.
When Day Two started, it didn’t take long for the Leeward Islands all-rounder to resume where he left off. He bowled 19.5 overs trying his best to outfox every batsman that faced him and he successfully picked up 6 scalps. This meant he collected 11 wickets in the match. Empire could only add 115 runs to the 25 runs lead from the first innings.
James returned in the second innings and was a bit more reserved in his approach as he rotated the strike as much as he possibly could. He literally could not be contained and in no time he got to another half-century making it five for the season. It also brought him 700 runs in the 2022 ABCA Two Day Competition which is a tremendous feat. He scored 75 runs in this inning with no other teammate passing 20 runs just like the first inning.
When he got out at 108 the Black Hawks were strolling towards the target of 140 and thanks to the experience of Kadeem Phillip and Joshua Thomas, they put on a 29-run partnership before both fell 4 runs shy of the target. Miandre James scored the winning runs alongside Captain Michael Greaves.
Congratulations Kofi James for your outstanding 2022 ABCA Two Day Competition performances. We would like to wish you all the best in your future endeavours. We would like to thank our sponsors for making the POTW award a possibility.

Micah McKenzie – Player of the Week 18
At 15 years old, he has been one of the standout performers for Empire Nation playing in his first ABCA season. Bowling one of the most difficult arts in the game, Micah McKenzie has demonstrated very good control and skill at his age. Armed with a Googly and Flipper, this youngster has been turning heads locally.
He was instrumental in the slaughter given to the All Saint Pythons picking up 6 for 34 runs in their first innings and returning in the second to collect 3 for 1 run. We have chosen this bright talent for our Player of the Week. Congratulations Micah McKenzie! Thanks to our sponsors for making the award possible!
Tyrone Williams Jr. – Player of the Week 17
After receiving a golden duck last week from the first delivery of Empire’s innings, Mr. Williams continued where he left off against the Rising Sun Spartans in fine fashion. The stylish right handed batsman stroked a well played 143 from 199 balls in a knock that featured three 50+ partnerships. His ability to bat long has clearly been seen previously against the Spartans, batting over four hours hitting 13 fours and 2 sixes as he received great support from former Leeward Islands player Juari Edwards (76).
The Bolans Blasters truly had no answers to the delightful shots played by their former teammate and very own man from the community, “T-Willy” . In fact, they used a total of nine bowlers to see who could solve the problem at hand but to no avail. However, it was Martin Caesar who provided the solution for the men from the south dismissing Williams in the 69th over.
His knock essentially set the foundation for Empire Nation to post a commanding total of 293, which they used to their full advantage beating Bolans by an innings and 107 runs. We have named Mr. Williams as our Player of the Week for his outstanding performance on the weekend. Thank you to our sponsors for making the award possible.
