Essan Warner – Most Valuable Player

In his first season with the Bethesda Golden Eagles, Essan Warner has been named MVP of the 2021 ABCA State Insurance Super 40 Tournament. The 18 year old batting, allrounder played pivotal roles with both bat and ball.

He was one of the key players that contributed to helping the men from east in winning their first Super 40 Competition. He scored one century and two fifties with a high score of 112(87) against the New Winthorpes Lions.

Moreover, he was the leading wicket-taker this season picking up 22 wickets with his tidy off spin at an average of 8.27 per wicket. We would like to congratulate Mr. Warner on a job well done and wish him more success for the rest of the season.

Shavon Moore – Player of 3rd Place Playoff

Congratulations to Shavon Moore being named our Player of the 3rd Place Playoff. The bowling, allrounder continues to show that he was one of the better batsmen in the New Winthorpes side. Lions were then inserted to bat in a shortened game.

With just about 14 overs left in the innings, Moore straddled to the crease knowing that his team needed a good total on board. He immediately got to work and took it to Jennings bowling. He slammed 55 runs from 30 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. His contribution with the bat aided his team in reaching 211 for 6 from 30 overs.

Jennings Tigers playing at home didn’t want to disappoint their fans again so decided to change things up for this game. The swashbuckling Winston Nelson and the resilient Cameron Miller put the Lions bowling under pressure from the first over of Ishmael Peters.

However, that was short-lived as Peters got his man Nelson who had hit him for 3 big sixes. Moore was introduced into the attack not too long after and started a bit waywardly. But as the innings progressed, he removed top scorer Paul Miller for 74 and Jaheim Africa for a one ball duck.

It was Moore who was given the task to restore some pride to the Lions and that he did very well.We would like to extend congratulations to Mr. Moore and New Winthorpes Lions for their accomplishments in this year’s Super40 Tournament and wish them continued success for the rest of the season.

Justin Athanaze – Player of Semi-final #2

In big games you need your senior players to stand out and Former Leeward Islands Off Spinner Justin Athanaze did just that. The captain opened the bowling for the Empire Nation and put a muzzle over the Tigers mouth from ball one. He created a lot of pressure that caused the Jennings men to lose wickets quickly as they attempted to break from their shackles.

He bowled skillfully as the Tigers batsmen found it hard to pounce on him due to a pitch that was slow and turning rich with moisture beneath the surface. At the end of Jennings innings, they could only muster 162 from 39.5 overs thanks to the heroics of Athanaze and company. He ended with figures of 8 overs 3 maidens 15 runs and 3 wickets. We take this time to wish Justin continued success for the rest of the season.

Gavin Tonge – Player of 1st Semi-Final

Former West Indies player, Gavin Tonge showed that he was nothing but class and deservingly so, as he was named player of the first semi-final for his team against New Winthorpes Lions. The tall, strongly built, fast bowler seemed at one point to be bowling marbles at the Lions batsmen who had to watch him bowl five miserly overs for 5 runs in his opening spell. He ended the innings with figures of 6-1-12-1 as the men from Blizzard could only manage a paltry 152 for 5 from the allotted 32 overs.

But it was his batting that stole the show from the Lions. With the score at 72-2 needing another 80 runs from 17 overs, the batsman Tonge came in and smashed the ball to all parts of the ground, hitting 6 fours and 2 big ones bringing up his first half century for the season. His contribution with bat and ball was pivotal in helping his team to book a place in the final. We would like to wish Mr. Tonge continued success for the rest of the season.

Kenrick Scott – Player of Week 5

Congratulations are in order for Mr. Kenrick Scott of the Anderson Carty Empire Nation for a brilliant and dominating batting display scoring 151 runs to help his team book a semi final spot.

The batting all-rounder smashed the ball to all parts of the park with fours and sixes galore. He met Damian Lowenfield at the crease with the score at 40 for 2. Then, the two put on 223 for the third wicket before Lowenfield was dismissed for 114. In fact, at one point both batsmen were on 99.

Due to the contributions of Scott and company, Empire moved one place to 3rd which means they will face Jennings in the Semi-final next Sunday at Jennings Playing Field.

We would like to wish Kenrick Scott continued success for the rest of the 2021 season.

Essan Warner – Player of Week 4

We have named Mr. Essan Warner as our Player of Week 4. The left handed, batting allrounder has been in good form since the recently concluded ABCA T10 Competition and he continues to shine with both bat and ball.

In the 7th Round, Essan smashed a counterattacking century against the New Winthorpes Lions in a top of the table clash as wickets steadily fell around him. He found support from Anthony Martin as they helped their side to a defendable total. He later returned with the ball to strangle the flow of runs – 8 overs going for just 2 runs an over. His performance truly impacted the match allowing his team to secure a place in the semifinals.

In the 8th Round, Mr. Warner was not as fruitful with the bat as he was in the previous game, scoring a mere 38 runs. But one of the best things of being an allrounder is that when you don’t perform with the bat, you can certainly do so with the ball. He shared the new ball with Jawakie Joseph and immediately put a chokehold on the Spartans batting line up causing them to lose wickets at regular intervals. He ended with 4 for 26 picking up another Man of the Match award.

We wish continued success to Mr. Warner for the rest of the season from Cricket268.

Karima Gore – Player of Week 3

We have named Karima Gore of the PIC Liberta Blackhawks as our Player of the Week for Week 3. The USA allrounder starred with the bat on Saturday smashing a whirlwind 109 from 106 deliveries to help his side beat All Saints Pythons.

He then followed up on Sunday, to destroy the batting line up of the Jennings team with the ball picking up 4-17 from his 8 overs. Afterwards, he formed an unbeaten 90 run partnership with the talented Avier Christian scoring 41 not out. We wish the Mr. Gore great success for the rest of the season.
